Golden Gate Bridge

Last year, I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge with my sister and my mom. It was during July but it was so foggy and cold, it felt much more like winter. I swear it felt like it was 50 degrees that day. I didn't wear a jacket so I was shivering throughout the whole walk. All I heard the entire time walking was the sound of cars as they drove on the bridge and the sound of pigeons. Cars just kept driving nonstop, I was a bit surprised how many cars actually took the bridge because I never realized how many people drove from San Francisco to Marin and vice versa. There was actually a lot of people walking across the bridge as well. I was on the right side walking towards Marin and the left side had just as many bicyclists. Midway through walking, we stopped to sight see (which I really didn't want to because I wanted to get it over with already). I noticed that it smelled like ocean water, which smelled a bit salty and musty, but it wasn't too bad. It also smelled a bit rusty, like how a penny smells like, because the metal began to rust. When we finally reached the end of the bridge, we wanted to look at San Francisco but we couldn't see a thing because of how foggy it was. What a disappointment. We began walking back towards San Francisco and I held onto the rail just to see what it felt like because I never touched the bridge and it felt like rough metal. The rails had a lot of weird feeling spots on it because the red paint was chipped off it wasn't as smooth as I expected. It took us about 20 minutes when we finally reached San Francisco. The walk felt like it took forever. I believe the bridge is about 2 miles but walking didn't seem like 2 miles. It felt much longer walking 2 miles on the bridge than it did walking 2 miles in my neighborhood. It took us about an hour to walk to the end of the bridge and back but it felt like much much longer because it was so cold. Overall, it was a pretty cool experience. It could've been much better, though, if it was hot like it should be during summer!

  1. Pretty cool mini adventure you experienced there. It reminds me the day where I first walked across the Golden Gate Bridge. I felt the same way you felt. Walking was such a torture because I didn't realize how long it was. I love how you were very curious with your surroundings it really reminds me of how I was when I first experience coming across new places.
