The foggy city of San Francisco is a place I love calling home, but of course I'm not the only one who loves SF, 825,000 other people live here as well. Being only 231.9 sq. miles big, almost 16 million people visit SF a year, and about 43,000 each day causing it to overflow with life. What is so great about SF you may ask? Well, of course I would say everything, but you probably won't believe me. To narrow it down, the best place to experience the greatness of SF is simply to go to the heart of it, Union Square.
If you're in SF and you have no idea where to go or where to look, Union Square, on Geary and Stockton, is the place you should start, and guaranteed, the last place you will end up. Walk to the center of Union Square, put down whatever you're holding, close your eyes and just listen. The sound of people talking, laughing, yelling, crying, all enters your ear. The sun shines down on you, warming your skin as you stand there, and with one single gust of wind all of this is silenced, the cool wind cutting through your clothes leaves you with a chill and you know you're in San Francisco. You can never be prepared for what SF has in store for you, one moment you're shivering from the cold air, the next you're fanning yourself because the heat is unbearable. But don't let the weather scare you away. Now open your eyes, look all around you, there are people of different faces, skin, height, and size everywhere. Diversity and culture come together making San Francisco what it is today. No matter who you are, you are not only welcomed by the city, but you are welcomed by the people. No one will judge you on the way you look, the way you speak, the way you act, San Francisco is a place for variety, and diversity. Never will you feel out of place, so talk a walk. Any direction you go will be without a doubt adventurous and fun. Like to shop? Westfield mall is the place to go, with many stores to chose from, you will be there for days. Feeling hungry? Take a walk around the block and you're guaranteed to find something to your liking. Just want to sightsee? Find your way towards Grant street where you can walk through history as you step foot into the oldest and largest Chinatown in the United States. If you're just feeling lazy, you can always sit and enjoy the atmosphere of Union Square. There is never nothing to do, everything is accessible and affordable. So what are you waiting for, come and see what San Francisco is all about.
This is so true. San Francisco always has something to do, I'm surprised when people say it's boring here!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said. If theres one thing that makes San Francisco awesome, its diversity. The fact that you pointed out how bipolar the weather is in San Francisco is very much true. People tend to think theres nothing to do anymore, but fail to realize the kinds of experiences they are missing.
ReplyDeleteI've read this so many times and felt such jealousy towards you because all I wanted to do was go explore Union Square since I was here, but I never had to time! But I FINALLY went today and even though it was my first time (since I was like, 10), I felt like I was at home! Of course not the whole crowded side walks and smelly areas, but the place was so breath taking, I could be there forever. I know that some people don't like places for being so crowded, polluted, and hectic, but my heart will always lie in the city!
ReplyDeleteYou make sf sound so fun, i feel like I should clear a whole day to explore and that may not be enough time to do it all. I'm not from the city, but i've made visits plenty of times and never really knew where to go. Thanks, ill keep all of this in mind.
