"Life isn't measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
I have always loved this quote because I feel that it's saying to not take life for granted and make everyday the best that you can. There are so many people that take their life and what they have for granted and don't realize what they have until it's gone. Why dedicate our time planning out our future setting up every step when we can have our future made for us? Often times we focus too much on "making the best of every moment," when in reality, the moments that take our breaths away happen naturally. We may see each day we live as an obstacle we wish we didn't have to deal with, but when time progresses and we take a step back and look at what we are lucky enough to have, we finally realize the beauty of each moment we experience. A lot of people don't think about how much more they have than other people do, roofs over their head, warm clothes, food, family, etc. you never really think that it could be taken away just like that when you aren't expecting it. When we take our life for granted, we fail to see the significance we experience in life. Life happens quickly; with every breath another moment passes. Life shouldn't be measured by the years lived because when we grow old we will not look back on how many years we have lived we will only remember the memories we have made.
I remember hearing this quote and knowing that its pretty common, but nevertheless it is a great quote. I've enjoyed the way you connected with this quote and your thoughts on it. I wish it could have been just a bit longer, I was just kind of left unsatisfied at the end. But other than that good job!
ReplyDeleteThe general gist of this quote is very typical. The quote just reeks of poetic revision and metaphorical tactfulness (notice the juxtaposition of connotation?). Frankly, I am disappointed that you chose this quote. I expected something more unique and tasteful. I will now recite a quote by me that means the exact same thing. Ahem... "Life is not simply a function of choices or actions, but a whole system of calculus of bleeding hearts, unwiped tears, and the beautiful dead." The only difference between my quote and quotes like the one which you wrote about was that I made mine very over-broad and flowery. Bypassing my disdain for your quote, I liked your analysis; albeit typical, it was refreshing to read. The picture was nice, but I wish those words weren't there to cloud up the view with their trite abstraction.
ReplyDeletePost 2: I liked the images and descriptions of your favorite place. I love the beach myself.
ReplyDeletePost 3: I also liked your analysis of this quote. Both these posts were a bit short, though. I would have liked to have seen how you feel this quote plays out for you- what do you do to make this happen in your life?
